Our task was to review the way in which services were delivered to stroke clients at an acute hospital in the Midlands.  The aim was to improve both the short-term outcome and long-term care for stroke patients

Best practice in other parts of the country was reviewed alongside current practice in this particular trust and this translated into the development of a TIA (transient isachemic attack )( mini stroke ) service to ensure that patients received care tailor-made for their condition and were appropriately managed.

GPs were closely involved in this process and specialist outpatient clinics set up. A new community stroke team managed clients in the home and the number of people admitted to hospital through the Accident and Emergency unit reduced.

Throughout this process, Fowler Consulting provided management support, liaison services and a link between the many partners involved in this radical development of a new service.
