Providing a hospice for the local community
Fowler Consulting were asked to provide a hybrid business case for a local hospital charity which aimed to provide a 25 bed inpatient unit with support services.
We had to develop a model of care for palliative services from a community focus working with acute, primary and community trusts , and also develop a financial model for the first two years in operation. As well as look at and investigate the floor space requirement and define building costs, for the operational facility to include education, ancillary, day hospice and support services
Our role in this ongoing project has been to develop a physical environment that allows patients to have positive experiences during their stay; to develop a model of care that puts the patient firmly at the centre of services and meets the gold standard framework; to promote a philosophy of care using the NICE guidelines in terms of emphathy, dignity and privacy.
The operational aspects have centred on a workforce plan in partnership with the local PCT and acute trust. We have been closely involved in the hospice’s volunteer group, its complementary therapies and a hospice at home service.
